Gear
By the volume of emails I get, I understand that those of you that are gearheads would like to know what equipment I use. First, I would say that it isn't about a brand or model. Use whatever sounds right, feels good, and makes your musical heart happy. I know first hand that the process of finding the right combination can be frustrating, but that's part of the journey. Never-the-less, here's what I've been using.
Strings:
John Pearse 600L
Guitars:
Huss And Dalton CM (Walnut & Spruce, Rosewood & Spruce).
Both are custom made.
Webber OM (Flame Maple & Cedar)
Guild Rhode Island (My nephew now has this axe)
Picks:
Herco Flat Thumb
Acrylic nails (3 picking fingers)
Ampflication:
Ultrasound Amps. I use two of them and play in a stereo configuration.
Pickups:
Fishman Undersaddle Transducer (in both H&D guitars)
Highlander and Sunrise (in the Webber)
Effects:
TC Electronics SCF (Stereo Chorus/Flange)
Alesis Q20
Lexicon MPX-1
Mics:
Shure SM-57, SM-58, SM-81
Audio Technica 4033
Studio Monitors:
Mackie HR824
Endorsements
I am proud to be an ambassador for John Pearse merchandise. For nearly a decade now, I have been using his strings exclusively, and they are featured on all of my CDs. Having tested a great number of other brands (including several of the coated strings), I have found that nothing measures up to JPs. They produce the sound I want to hear and the feel I like under my fingertips. But, it’s more than that. I once had a problem with a B string (.016 in the 600L) that John asked me to return. Well, it was replaced with a whole new pack. That level of customer support, in this day and age, formed a lasting impression on me. This is a company that cares about their product. If you are wondering what strings you should try, do yourself a favor and give a pack of JP's a test drive!
Tell Michelle that I sent you...
